Inspection and Testing Course Package – City & Guilds 2394 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations AND City & Guilds 2395 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

These two inspection and testing qualifications (recommended to be taken together) replace and improve on the former 2391 and 2392 qualifications that were previously available to electricians, but have since been withdrawn.

  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (C & G 2394)
  • Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (C & G 2395)

 

The 2394 / 2395 course package is aimed at those working in the electrical industry who have existing knowledge of inspection and testing but who need to complete the formal qualifications. The course package is also suitable for those who wish to refresh and/or upgrade their skills in initial verification, certification, periodic inspection & testing of electrical installations.

Course Package Overview

These courses have been developed in a partnership between NICEIC and Virtual College’s Trades e-Academy. The courses form part of a blended learning solution, where online training is combined with in-centre practical training and assessment, reducing the amount of time spent in the classroom.

For the in-centre practical training and assessment you have a choice of two centres to attend, either Luton or Chesterfield.

Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (2394)

This course will help you to understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with regulations and requirements. It is recommended that you have basic knowledge of electrical science and experience of electrical installation before attempting this training.

Upon completion of this course, you will understand the requirements for:

  • Completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Initial verification of electrical installations
  • Completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
  • Safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
  • Testing before circuits are energised
  • Testing energised installations
  • The completion of electrical installation certificates and associated documents

Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2395)

This course will teach you the principles, practices and legislation for Periodic Inspection and Testing and reporting of electrical installations in accordance with statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements. Upon completion of this course and practical training and assessment, you will be able to inspect and test a range of installations in both domestic and commercial settings. It will also allow you test and inspect existing installations carried out by other domestic installers or electricians.

Before attempting this course, you should have previous inspection and testing experience or have completed the Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (2394).

The course will ensure you:

  • Recognise all relevant statutory and non-statutory regulation and guidance
  • Understand the importance of periodic inspection and testing
  • Understand the importance of conduction reporting
  • Are ready to undertake workshop training
  • Can apply to be formally assessed

 

Accreditation

The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.

Certification

Upon completion of the e-learning material and practical training, you will be required to complete an online exam, practical assessment and written exam, in a choice of two locations at either Luton or Chesterfield, in order to gain EAL or City & Guilds accreditation. Duration

Online course material: Approximately 30 hours (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning course you can complete this training in convenient stages. The system will record your progress throughout.

What

This is an online course, all the training will be taken through your browser window. There will be no face-to-face sessions with instructors, nor will you receive any training material through the post. If you wish you may print out any page of the training material and may also print the notes you took during the training.

You can also revisit the training material at any time, even after you have completed the course.

How

The material for this course has been broken down into several smaller lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject.

The lesson consists of a series of pages in which an instructor will talk you through the lesson material at a pace that suits you. Pages may also include supporting pictures, graphs, animation or extra sounds to help with the learning where appropriate. Some lessons will include challenges / quizzes to help you keep in touch and interested in the material.

Lessons can be taken in any order and each lesson may be PAUSED and RESUMED at any stage. When all lessons in the course have been completed you will be able to take (and retake) an online revision test.

When

The course is self-paced so you decide how fast or slow the training goes. You can complete the course in stages revisiting the training at any time.
